MOTHER-CHILD DYAD: Strengthening the comprehensive management of Congenital Chagas in the Health Network of Yacuiba, capital of the Gran Chaco province, Bolivia

The project’s objective was to strengthen the comprehensive management of congenital Chagas disease within the health network of Yacuiba, the capital of the Gran Chaco province in Bolivia, particularly by improving access to comprehensive Chagas healthcare, with a focus on monitoring the mother-child dyad.
The project contributed to increasing the capacity and access to opportunities for rights holders through: (i) improved patient follow-up to ensure adherence to scheduled visits during the child’s first year of life; (ii) training for healthcare personnel to improve care flows and provide high-quality, compassionate diagnosis and treatment for the mother-child dyad; (iii) training for the Chagas Program’s field technicians on the mother-child dyad monitoring strategy and the implementation of an entomological surveillance system with community participation; and (iv) training and organizing the community to raise awareness and promote proactive measures regarding Chagas disease. and (v) work with local authorities to manage sustainability in the actions and strategies to be established.
