PAHO updates the guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of Chagas disease

The Panamerican Health Organization (PAHO) just published the second edition of their “Guía para el diagnóstico y el tratamiento de la enfermedad de Chagas” (from Spanish, guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of Chagas disease). This work is aimed at health professionals and decision-makers, and it constitutes a reference tool for addressing this neglected tropical disease and implementing prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and control actions in the Region of the Americas.

The guide presents a series of recommendations developed through eleven questions, replacing the guidelines of the previous edition (2018), and incorporates the latest scientific evidence with advances in the knowledge of the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite and its effects, promoting a common diagnostic and therapeutic practice for patient-centered care.
