Ibero-American Initiative No Baby with Chagas Disease

Fundación Mundo Sano

The Initiative is being developed within the framework of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) and includes Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Paraguay. It seeks to contribute to the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of Chagas disease through a multidimensional approach, supporting strategies for the prevention and control of other routes of transmission.

The Initiative was developed to promote, guide, and strengthen the commitments made by Member States regarding the prevention and control of congenital Chagas disease:

  • Expansion of access to diagnosis and treatment of Chagas disease, taking into account the mother-child transmission, as well as chronic asymptomatic carriers.
  • Strengthening of health systems and services at all levels.
  • Reinforcement of epidemiological and entomological surveillance mechanisms for the prevention of Chagas disease transmission.
