New slogan for World Chagas Day focuses on the fact that “we are all needed” to control the disease

Associations of people affected by Chagas disease raise their voices through the theme that will focus the 2025 campaign

World Chagas Disease Day is observed annually on April 14 to increase awareness about this neglected disease. It is considered neglected because it receives little attention on the public health agenda. The World Health Assembly at WHO approved and endorsed on May 2019, with the first celebration held on April 14, 2020. World Chagas Day aims to raise awareness of Chagas disease, improve early detection, expand diagnostic coverage, and provide equitable access to clinical care. (PAHO)

On April 14, World Chagas Disease Day, the 2025 campaign kicks off with the selection of a new slogan. This year, Findechagas (the associations of affected people) emphasized that all stakeholders are necessary to control the disease, and that healthcare professionals must be up-to-date and collaborate with the community.

New slogan: “Prevent, control, care: Everyone’s role in Chagas disease

The reality of Chagas disease is complex and multidimensional, as a result of its risk factors and biomedical, psychosocial, and environmental determinants. Therefore, the study and approach to the reality of this disease must also be multidimensional and intersectoral. This means that all healthcare professionals must work in constant collaboration with civil society and their associations. Doctors, nurses, nursing technicians, laboratory staff, psychologists, social workers, community health workers, entomologists, epidemiologists, and information, education, and communication (IEC) professionals must be trained and up-to-date in order to work synergistically toward the goals of Chagas disease prevention and control.

Themes from previous World Chagas Disease Day campaigns:

  • 1st edition, 2020 | Let’s make Chagas Disease visible now
  • 2nd edition, 2021 | Comprehensive, equitable health care services for all people affected by Chagas Disease
  • 3rd edition, 2022 | Finding and reporting every case to defeat Chagas disease
  • 4th edition, 2023 | Time to integrate Chagas disease into primary health care
  • 5th edition, 2024 | Early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up
